Welcome to St. Agnes'!
"I was glad when they said unto me, 'We will go into the House of the Lord'". Psalm 122:1 The church family at St. Agnes' welcomes you to come and worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness! St. Agnes' is a historic church and a growing congregation in Cowan, Tennessee. We are mission of the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee and a constituent member of the 77-million member Worldwide Anglican Communion. We are located at 105 England Street E. in Cowan, Tennessee 37318. |
Our Services
"O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness..." Psalm 96:9 We gather for worship on the Lord's Day at 11:00 a.m. Our services follow the traditional form (Rite I) of the Book of Common Prayer. This congregation gathers on other days and holy occasions as announced. Other services include: Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Christmas Eve. The Holy Scriptures are the basis of everything we say, pray, read, sing, teach and preach every time we gather in the Lord's name. |
Sunday School:
"Teach them the statutes and instructions and make known to them the way they are to do." Exodus 18:20 We offer a seasonal Sunday school to teach the treasures of Holy Scripture and the powerful history of the Christian faith. Sunday school meets in the parish hall at 10:00 a.m. If you are new to the faith or simply want to refresh your understanding of basic Christian doctrine, ask about our Church Catechism course. The Catechism is a helpful way to learn (or re-learn!) the fundamentals of biblical teaching. If you are interested in the Catechism, call the church at 931-636-6313. |
Fellowship:
"And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers." Acts 2:42 Those who attend St. Agnes' are part of an extended family. We worship and pray together, but we also enjoy each other's company and fellowship at other times. We gather each and every Sunday after the 11:00 service for coffee, refreshments and conversation in the parish hall. On special occasions, such as Easter Sunday, our after-church gathering is a Sunday dinner with all the fixin's. We have some of the best cooks in town! |
Enrichment
Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance" Proverbs 1:5 We sometimes "venture out" to learn and experience new things. One favorite outing is the annual river rafting trip. We also hold movie/discussion nights, and our church actively supports local plays, lectures, concerts, and other enriching activities. St. Agnes' actively endorses the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, the Cowan Arts Lecture Series, the Community Brush Arbor meeting, and other events that benefit the larger community. |
What to Expect When You Visit:
"So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God" Ephesians 2:19 You may be a first-time visitor, but you are never a stranger in the house of the Lord! St. Agnes' is a family-size church. In other words, none of the parking is reserved, none of the pews are reserved, and we don't wear name tags. Members of our church family will be glad to see you, and don't be surprised if you feel like a member of the family before you leave! If you would like to speak with someone before your visit, don't hesitate to call the church at 931-636-6313 or send a post to [email protected]. One of us will be more than glad to meet with you at the church before the service begins and help you get better acquainted. |
